Since his introduction to the disability field, Ryan has gained over 15 years experience working with clients who have sustained severe acquired brain injuries. 

Ryan has extensive knowledge and experience in community-based recreation, active pursuits and sport for people with disabilities. Ryan prides himself on nurturing and maintaining excellent relationships with mainstream and specialised community-based recreation, sport and group activity providers. Ryan is passionate about supporting individuals identify, explore and set-up recreation and leisure based activities for sustained and ongoing success, and realises the importance of a collaborative team-based approach alongside clinicians and families. Ryan understands that each individuals' interests, needs and abilities differ, often requiring different approaches for successful experiences and engagement. Ryan has years of innovative development of new recreation programs having been involved in the initial development of many groups for people with disabilities, including programs for people with acquired brain injuries such as target shooting, karate and fishing.

Ryan’s philosophy is based on the belief that everyone has the right to participate in quality social and recreational pursuits of their choice and that this is an essential part of everyone’s life. Ryan understands engaging in one's interests has the ability to provide purpose and meaning, contributing to a person's quality of life and increasing the social, physical and emotional wellbeing of the individual.

In his role as Recreation Specialist Ryan also has extensive experience in supporting individuals achieve their holiday goals, assisting in planning and navigating through aspects such as costs, access, supports and funding.
